The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’s Lisabeth Salamander and Michael Blomkvist are back, though with new actors playing them and a new director to guide them. Director Fede Alvarez (“Don’t Breathe”) has taken over the helm of the Millennium series, which is based on the Swedish crime novel trilogy written by the late Stieg Larsson. It is believed that Larsson, who died before the book series was published, intended for the series to be a 10-book series.
The first book was adapted to film in 2011. It was directed by David Fincher (“Fight Club,” “Gone Girl) and starred Daniel Craig (“Spectre”) and Rooney Mara (“Side Effects”). Though scripts for the sequels were drafted, they were never actualized.
Alvarez’s reboot of the series will focus on the fourth book installment, which was written by David Lagercrantz in Larsson’s style. The film stars Claire Foy as Lisabeth Salamander. Sylvia Hoeks, Lakeith Stanfield, and Vicky Krieps will also star.
