So, here’s the thing — this book has been on my radar since not long after Angie Thomas made her phenomenal literary debut in Black History Month 2017. But I did not read it. I thought I wasn’t interested.
Until I saw this trailer.
It is because of this trailer that I made The Hate U Give my book club reading selection for July. I must admit, I am a bit out of touch with the younger generation. I am in awe of how effortlessly Thomas penned their voices and spirit. This is a book that will be required reading for my children. Starr and her friends give me hope.
I am so excited for the film, which is set to be released on October 19.
